Downton Exhibition

An Exhibition of some of the works of John Downton (1906 -1991), artist, poet and philosopher

John Downton and his family were residents of Erith. He attended Erith Convent and then went on to Erith Grammar School.

Hilda Downton, Sister of John Downton, has recently donated 7 of his works to the Bexley Collection. For this we thank her.

The official opening of the exhibition was on 27th March 2003.

The opening was attended by Hilda Downton and guests along with the Mayor of the London Borough of Bexley Councillor Ann Lucas, Councillor Malik, the EMG Volunteers and representatives of various local organisations.

The works are now on display to the public at Erith Museum, along with a brief history of John's life.

The Erith Museum Group hope to keep the exhibition open for 12 months.
